Trading Tennis

Further to recent videos on trading Tennis on Betfair. I thought I would make a detailed video on the rationale and process behind a simple trade on Tennis.

In this video, I am looking for a break of serve within a clearly defined period in the match.

We frame our trade by looking to get involved when there is a reasonable chance of a pay-off. When in the trade we use key points to enter and exit.

We use Bet Angel’s specialist Tennis trading software, Tennis Trader to implement these types of strategies.

Just a quick reminder that it’s the Australian Open Tennis next week.

This is a good tournament, because of the time difference, to learn to trade. It won’t interfere that much with other trading as late night matches will appear first thing in the morning in the UK.

It’s a good chance to experiment and try a few new ideas before the tour reaches Europe in the spring.

Bet Angel contains a massive number of great tools that you can use on Tennis. Make sure you check them out.

Jumping in and out of a match may be fun, but it makes sense to set up an idea of what you are trying to achieve and then framing your trade and the risk and reward around that outcome.

I use some small stakes in this video to explain how I frame a trade on an expected outcome. Tennis trader is useful for doing this as it can point you to roughly where the odds could be given a variety of scenarios and you trade inside that.

If you are learning how Tennis markets work I suggest you follow a similar pattern with small stakes and you will soon get an idea of what position you may want to take in a match.

Seeing the problems with heat and humidity this week at the US Open reminded me that I’d never really discussed or covered weather before and it’s effect in sport. I think perhaps I have in Golf?

But aside from heat and humidity there are other factors that effect a player when they are playing Tennis.

If you are trading Tennis on Betfair then taking into account these factors can help you spot opportunities or get out of trouble!

Having some statistical data to refer to in the tennis markets is extremely useful, particularly if you don’t watch a lot of tennis. Here I show you where I get my data from.

Trading Tennis on Betfair can broken, excuse the pun, into smaller chunks of opportunities.

Moments when the market can deliver a decent reward for not much happening.

This video is about one of those key points in the match.

There’s been a flurry of questions from followers. Hopefully this clears them all up!

Tennis trading on Betfair is somewhat different to horse-racing, with two players and a set structure to a match you’d expect it to. For that reason it’s important to approach things differently. How you define risk-free is one thing, but there certainly are points within a game or match you can exploit (all be it on smaller stakes of a few hundred) effortlessly.

Here is an example of my same favourite strategy working flawlessly at another venue. My goal as always, is to lay a prematch underdog who won the first set in her first service game of the second set. I always bypass the first game of the set, regardless of who is serving.

This is an example of a trade I made in the Barthel Ostapenko match at WTA Quebec City on September 14th.

Just thought I’d do a quick video to show you the time difference between Bet Angel updating scores via Betfair and the sky feed via Eurosport.

Either that or we have now put in a time machine in Bet Angel and can see the future.

Actually we have, it’s called Tennis trader, but it can’t actually see what is going to happen, just the impact. I digress!

This tennis trading strategy is about laying the server in pressure and momentum swing positions. I initially displayed this strategy last week in the Williams Bencic match. The ideal spot to enter using this strategy is during the first service game in the second set for an underdog who won the first set.

Here is an example of how pain free this strategy can be when executed correctly from the Halep Azarenka match on September 9th at the US Open.

In the early rounds of Tennis tournaments you can get some uncompetitive matches.

You can still trade these are relatively low risk and get the odd highly profitable surprise.

In this video we look at a match that exhibited these characteristics and show you how we would look at a future match that could exhibit the same characteristics.

This is a brief discussion on some publicly available stats. It’s aimed more at newbies to Tennis trading.

A lot of ‘true’ professional traders construct vast models of stats on each individual player to get an understanding of how they are likely to play.

In this video I’m just using the WTA site to highlight how the stats translate into generic player styles and behaviour.

Hopefully this will get your mind thinking through how you can apply this to certain situations in a match or a specific match between two types of players.

When trading Tennis I’ll tend to set up my screen up as follows, or something similar.

Doing so allows me to zip in and out of matches quickly and keep all key information on one screen.

You can save these layouts by name and switch between quickly and easily depending on which layout you require and which sport you are trading.
