Philip Davies is a Conservative MP for Shipley in West Yorkshire who has been in Parliament since 2005. A fan of racing from an early age, Philip worked in a betting shop run by his mother and also worked at Asda in Leeds as a Senior Marketing Manager before becoming an MP, was elected to the board of the Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) in 2019 and has been a vocal voice in support of the racing industry.
In Part 1, Philip tells us about his early days working in a betting shop, how he got into politics, and some of his first racing memories. Philip also discusses the best way to promote racing in a tricky time for the sport’s image, and any areas that the gambling review should be focusing on.
