#BettingPeople GREG MILLER (Part 2 of 4)
Greg Miller has spent his whole life playing and working in sport and has had an involvement in greyhound racing his whole life. From owning greyhounds to later becoming CEO of one of Australia’s most successful greyhound clubs, Sandown Park, and now as Deputy Chairman of Greyhound Racing Victoria, he has seen the sport from many angles. He has also travelled the world to go greyhound racing, including here in the UK on many occasions. His views on the sport are well-informed, forward thinking and invaluable. Meet Greg Miller.
The funding model for greyhound racing in Australia is unique and immense. It’s a not for profit industry but generates a massive amount of money as bookmakers, including TAB, pay a statutory levy. Here, Greg tells us how much money comes in and where it goes. We discuss how funds available here in the UK are much lower and spread much thinner too. Importantly, we discuss if the Australian model could ever be replicated here in the UK. We also learn why greyhound owners don’t get a kennel bill and how and why trainers still make a very good living.
